Sex offenders as congregation members
June 01, 2009
Hello again!

Sex Offenders as Members of Your Church.

UPDATES...

A sex offender is usually persona non grata pretty much everywhere. However, the very purpose of ministry is to bring the minister and the people closer to God.

So what happens when...say a prison ministry...asks a church to accept a sex offender...who is about to be released...as a member?

Should the church officials and elders simply say no? Should they simply trust that everything will be allright and accept the person?

Those are two extremes...and they each cover up important issues in considering how to minister to sex offenders.

Even if this particular issue is not relevant to your ministry...it would be useful to read in order to develop a keener sense of subtle boundary issues that arise under different circumstances.
