Comment on What is a family bible

A family bible refers to a copy of the Old and New Testaments that used to be found in every Christian home.

It had specific pages bound into it that recorded family events such as marriages, births, Christenings, deaths, with all pertinent information about these events.

It was, and still is, a legal document verifying the information it contains.

It was also a source of genealogy for different branches of the same family.

They can still be purchased from Christian bookstores.

And if you are planning to have a license-free Christian marriage, it would be a good idea to have such a bible as a family record of important events.

For example, a license-free marriage is not a common law marriage.

Common law marriage is a private matter that happens by default after a couple merely cohabits for a specified time. It is an unwitnessed marriage that happens passively.

A solemn Christian marriage is a public event in front of witnesses (who are named in the family bible). It is the active consent of both parties to the marriage and witnessed as such in the family bible.

Hope this helps.
