Marriage Without License And Pension Benefits

by Karen

I am wanting to know more about getting married without a
license.

If you do that, will you still be able to get your spouses pension?

Because they have stated without the license you cannot get his pension.

The marriage is recorded in the Bible and signed by the minister, as well as there is a marriage certificate we bought and was signed by the minister, but it appears without any government dealings, we have to pose as single.

Marriage without license and pension benefits

Karen,

It's unclear whether you are getting married or are already married without a license. We'll presume you are married without a license.

We do not offer legal advice and also note that pension plans vary from one plan to another.

Some questions we have:

"They stated without the license you cannot get his pension." Do you have to be married at all for him to get his pension? Did "they" show you any law to verify their statement? Is a state marriage license part of the pension benefit contract?

The point being that you must ask these, and more questions, yourself before either you or "they" can decide whether the pension gets paid out and under what contractual conditions.
